Hospitality Resume Template

Hospitality managers scan resumes in about ten seconds, often standing up, sometimes between shifts. That is not a criticism of them, it is the reality of the job. This template is built to survive a ten second scan and still get you a call.

Roles this covers

What hospitality managers look for

Volume and reliability. A manager wants to know you can handle a busy Friday and that you will actually show up for it. Everything else is secondary.

Numbers that actually mean something

Hospitality has great numbers available and most resumes leave them out. "Ran a 12-table section on Friday and Saturday nights, averaging 1,800 dollars in sales per shift" gives a manager an immediate picture of what you can handle.

Other numbers worth including: covers per shift, tickets per hour, rooms turned per day, drawer accuracy, and upsell rates if you tracked them.

Common mistakes on hospitality resumes

First job or coming back to work

If this is your first hospitality job, lead with anything that shows you handle people and pressure. Retail, camp counseling, church events, catering a family wedding, all of it demonstrates the same skills.

If you are returning after time away, do not apologize for the gap. List what you did and move on. Managers in this field care far more about whether you can work Saturday than about a two year gap.
